Weekend Wanderings

Crazy week.  Halloween started on Friday last weekend and continued right on through Monday night.  Thank goodness we ran out of candy at 7:30!  These were some fun things I ran across on the internet this week.

This post on Halloween.  Jubilee keeps asking me why certain of our friends don’t “do” Halloween, so this was timely.

Oswald Chambers, on Obedience of Independence:  “My personal life may be crowded with small, petty happenings, altogether insignificant. But if I obey Jesus Christ in the seemingly random circumstances of life, they become pinholes through which I see the face of God. Then, when I stand face to face with God, I will discover that through my obedience thousands were blessed. When God’s redemption brings a human soul to the point of obedience, it always produces.”

Been checking out thrift stores.  Love her finds, hoping to fill my house with more second-hand seating too!

Found some awesome baskets to hang on my kitchen walls though.  I was wondering how to hang them up.  This was instructive, so I did likewise.

I also found so many awesome basket walls on Pinterest (board here).  Loved this one.

Weekend Wanderings

Oswald Chamber’s has been preaching to my heart this week.

Wednesday’s entry:  “The central point of the kingdom of Jesus Christ is a personal relationship with Him, not public usefulness to others.”

Oh, how I’ve been struggling to be patient and love my husband and children this week!  Friday’s entry, “We do not need the grace of God to withstand crises— human nature and pride are sufficient for us to face the stress and strain magnificently. But it does require the supernatural grace of God to live twenty-four hours of every day as a saint, going through drudgery, and living an ordinary, unnoticed, and ignored existence as a disciple of Jesus. It is ingrained in us that we have to do exceptional things for God— but we do not. We have to be exceptional in the ordinary things of life, and holy on the ordinary streets, among ordinary people— and this is not learned in five minutes.”

This chandelier.

Lasagna soup.  Delicious.

Basket walls.  I ventured into a local thrift store late last week and purchased a totally cute basket for such a wall … only to discover it had several purplish/red stains.

I’ve been dreaming about this soup.  I’ve made it twice.  Of course, I modified it to be wheat-free and totally fried the meatballs before I put them in the broth.  But it was so.  Good.

This article.  “When I speak the truth, pray, and hold up my light with shaking arms because it’s all I know to do, I am a good mom.”

I felt the Holy Spirit when I read this.  However you vote, don’t be silent when someone unabashedly brags about sin.

But, also, leave their response up to them and God.  Don’t take the burden on yourself.

Ever since I discovered Joanna Gaines, I’ve loved the look of cotton stems.  Of course, I can’t exactly pick them up on the side of the road around here, so  … after we have a painter come paint our living room in November, I’m going to try out this DIY cotton stem.

Did I mention that I joined the Nester’s Cozy Minimalist Class?  (For heaven’s sake we’ve literally had paint swatches up on our walls for longer than it takes to grow and deliver a baby).  One of the gals pinned this as her inspiration room.  I might mimic her.  We’ve got these awful not-quite-built-in bookshelves that Kagan wants to paint navy …

And, since I’ve been totally lurking on Pinterest these days — because, I signed up for The Nester’s class — I also discovered this funky, fun room.  Do you think Kagan would agree to this?
